Places in the Jim Peppler Collection
Though the Southern Courier was based in Montgomery, Alabama, the news it covered and the images it used were by no means limited to that city. More than 52 distinct places are depicted from six states as well as the District of Columbia.
These visualizations depict the geographic spread, number of photos taken in each location, and percentage of photos in the collection that depict that location.
Approximately 1,904 photos, or 14.13% of the photographs in the collection and the second most represented “location”, have no location tagged at all.
Click on any of the locations to view photos of that location from the Jim Peppler Southern Courier Collection on the Alabama Department of Archives and History’s digital collections site.
While it is important to know where photos were taken, it is also important to understand how many photos were taken in a particular location as well. The below treemap demonstrates that Peppler and the Southern Courier were most active in Alabama. Not represented on this treemap are the 1,904 photos, or 14.13% of the photos, that have no location tagged.
